I have a problem with perfectionism, in both senses of the word ‘problem’: I have a problem with the fact that trying to be perfect is even a thing, because it’s pretty unfair when you think about it, and at the same time I struggle with perfectionist tendencies and have struggled to get to a place where I can be okay with dropping the ball sometimes and not feel like it’s a sign of weakness or failure (and I’ll talk about how I managed to do that shortly).
And the Oxford Dictionary defines it as the “refusal to accept any standard below perfection “(which uses part of the word to define the word, and that drives me crazy, but hey, even the Oxford Dictionary isn’t perfect!). So what exactly is this idea of “perfect”? It’s about being free of any defect or flaw in condition or quality, being flawless or being exactly right.
